Econorent Chile - Exclusive Rental Terms for travel between 01-Jun-2017 and 31-Dec-2024
Insurance, Covers and Waivers
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) limits the driver’s liability in the event that the rental car is damaged, subject to the terms of the rental agreement.
Rather than the full cost, the driver is generally only responsible for the first portion, known as their ‘excess’. This protection applies to all authorized drivers of the rental car.
Third-Party Liability (TPL)
Third-Party Liability (TPL) covers the driver’s liability for damage to any property, excluding the rental car itself. TPL also covers injuries suffered by other people, whether or not they are in the rental car, subject to the terms of the rental agreement.
Theft Protection (TP)
Theft Protection (TP) limits the driver’s liability for costs incurred by the theft of the rental car – or damage incurred by the theft or attempted theft – to an ‘excess’ amount, subject to the terms of the rental agreement. TP does not cover personal effects, which may be covered by the driver’s own travel or household policies.

Not Included in the Rental Price
This section shows charges that Client will pay at the counter because of where they are picking the car up, who's driving, and where they go during your rental.
This section doesn’t show other over-the-counter costs, such as charges for fuel, child seats or additional services. Clients will find details of other charges in other sections of these terms and conditions.
The client is responsible for any charges and fines, including tolls, congestion charges, speeding tickets and parking or traffic fines.
After your rental
If Client incurred any charges, such as speeding tickets or unpaid congestion charges, Econorent will try to contact the client when the authorities ask them who was driving. This could be months after client’s rental – and they will have to pay the company’s administration fee as well as the original charge.
Government Fees & Taxes
Governments charge car hire companies for services such as roads and tourist facilities – and the companies pass these costs on to their customers. When client’s pick the car up, they will pay:
Road Tax Fee
The cost is US$ 6724 CLP including tax per day.
If any of the followings apply, the counter staff will charge extra when client pick the car up – or when they drop it off:
Econorent will charge you if the car needs more than a reasonable amount of cleaning after your rental.
Acceptable forms of payment
The main driver must be in possession of a Credit Card in their own name when picking up the car. The Card must have enough available funds to cover the excess/deposit amount (which will be blocked on the Card for the duration of the rental). The Card will also be required to pay for local fees, extra equipment and anything purchased additionally at Econorent counter.
Cash and Debit cards are not accepted.
Accepted Credit Cards
When picking the car up, the main driver and any additional drivers will need to provide a full driving license in their name.
An International Driving License is required if the driving license is printed with non-Roman Alphabet.
Forms of Identification
A passport or identity card is required.
Minimum age limit for this car is 24.
All rental cars must have Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TP). Both policies will be either:
included in our package, or
purchasable from the car hire company, or
provided by the customer's credit card company.
Deposit / Excess
The car has a damage excess of US$ 1,850.00 excluding tax.
The car has a theft excess of US$ 1,850.00 excluding tax.
Econorent will require a deposit amount of between US$ 400.00 and US$ 2,000.00 excluding tax at pick-up. The deposit will be returned after the rental, as long as all conditions have been met.
Due to fluctuating foreign exchange rates and other possible banking charges, Econorent cannot be held responsible for any difference between the amount paid and the amount refunded.
Optional Covers and Waivers available at counter
Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) covers medical and legal costs incurred by bodily injuries resulting from an accident, including death and loss of limb(s), subject to the terms of the rental agreement. This protection applies to all authorized drivers of the rental car.
Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) reduces the driver’s liability in the event that the rental car is damaged, limiting their legal obligation to pay for repairing or replacing the car, subject to the terms of the rental agreement.
Rather than the full cost, the driver is generally only responsible for the first portion, known as their ‘excess’ – and in many cases, this excess is set at zero, meaning the driver’s liability is waived entirely. This protection applies to all authorized drivers of the rental car.
Policies normally exclude things such as windscreens, glass, wheels, tyres, undercarriage, interior, personal belongings, towing charges & off-road time – as well as any ‘extra equipment’ hired from the car hire company, such as child seats and GPS devices.
Note that your cover will be invalidated by negligence, refueling errors or breaking the terms of the rental agreement (for example, by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs).
Before purchasing any cover, please check any travel or vehicle policies you already have, as they may provide equivalent cover.
Damage to the car will be charged for Econorent after it is dropped off - and will incur a Damage Administration fee on top of the amount deducted from the excess.
An Immobilisation Charge is payable in the event of an accident. This is in addition to the amount deducted from the excess and is compulsory. This charge is calculated against the car group and the number of repair days.

Cross-Border and Boundary rules
Customers whose travel plans include driving outside the country of rental (or crossing borders or traveling to different islands within the same country) must advise us before they pick the car up. Restrictions may apply which may require the customer to pay additional fees.
The car may only be taken out of the country in which the rental began via land borders. The term ‘land borders’ includes borders on the bridge or in tunnels – but taking the car on any boat or ferry will invalidate the cover supplied with the car as standard.
Customers must inform Econorent of any cross-border travel as restrictions may apply in certain countries where the car cannot be taken.
Taxes & Fees
Any additional services will be subject to any applicable sales taxes and location fees.
Pay local extras equipment
Additional extras should be requested at the time of booking and paid for (directly to Econorent) at the time of pick-up.

Terms of booking on this website
The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
